One of the best ways to explore the unique character of the Stour Valley is by foot. You can take in the stunning views, hear the sounds of the river and realise why so many great painters got their inspiration from the area.

Stour Valley Path
The Stour Valley Path is a 60 mile route that follows the valley sides of the River Stour through the delightful countryside of Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire.
The Dedham Vale Stour Valley Project has produced free circular walking guides. You can download the route maps from their website.
Sudbury & District Group of The Ramblers' Association regularly lead walks (Free of charge) in the Stour Valley, visitors are welcome.
Suggested Stour walk
Manningtree to Dedham (3 or 7 miles)
This easy stroll through England's flatlands is a traffic-free walk full of rural charm.
Start from Manningtree railway station and follow signs to Flatford, passing Cattaway Marshes full of wetland birds. This is England at it's scenic best. Arriving in Flatford where Constable painted some of his most famous works such as The Hay Wain.
You can either return the way you came or stroll onto Dedham. This will add 3 miles to your walk. Once in Dedham you can see Constable's magnificent The Ascension displayed in the St. Mary church. From Dedham you can loop round back to your original path.
